Redcliffe Jetty: Fishing, Markets, Walks & Sunsets

Private side entrance with pergola walkway and frangipani

The Redcliffe Jetty reaches out into Moreton Bay from Redcliffe Parade. It is the centre of the Sunday markets, a fishing spot, a sunrise favourite and the departure point for seasonal whale-watching cruises.

A bit of history

The first Redcliffe Jetty was finished in 1885, and a second replaced it in 1922. The current jetty opened in 1999 and keeps touches of the old ones, including heritage-style lighting and a railway-track pattern in the deck.

Fishing

The jetty is a popular spot for a line, with whiting a common catch. Queensland needs no licence for recreational fishing in tidal waters, but size and possession limits apply, and there are no-take green zones elsewhere in the bay. Check the Qld Fishing app before you go.

Sunday markets

The Redcliffe Markets run every Sunday on Redcliffe Parade beside the jetty, 8am to 2pm from March to November and 7am to 1pm from December to February, right next to the jetty.

Sunrise, not sunset

The jetty faces east over the bay towards Moreton Island, which makes it a sunrise spot. For sunset over the water, drive about 7 minutes south to Woody Point Jetty on Bramble Bay.

Whale watching

From June to November, Brisbane Whale Watching runs daily cruises on MV Eye Spy from the Redcliffe Jetty, usually boarding at 9am and back in the early afternoon. Book ahead through the operator.

What is nearby

  • Bee Gees Way, 109 Redcliffe Parade: statues, photos, music and a light show after sunset.
  • Settlement Cove Lagoon: a free council lagoon with lifeguards during opening hours.
  • Suttons Beach: the peninsula’s patrolled beach, a short walk south.
