The Redcliffe Peninsula has one of Moreton Bay’s best-known off-leash dog beaches, plenty of on-leash beach and foreshore walking, and a dog park with an agility course. Here is where you can take your dog, and the rules that go with each spot.
Where is the off-leash beach?
Queens Beach North, Scarborough is a designated off-leash area on the sand and in the water along Flinders Parade, between the beach access stairs and the northern rock groyne. It became permanent in 2021 and has no time limits. Dogs must stay on a leash on the grass, footpaths and car park, and on the beach south of the stairs. It is about 1.7 km from our villa.
Where can dogs walk on a leash?
- Queens Beach, Scarborough: the main beach south of the off-leash stretch is an on-leash area.
- Clontarf: the beach between Woody Point Jetty and the bridge is on-leash only.
- Scarborough: there is an on-leash area on the north-facing beach west of the end of Reef Point Esplanade.
City of Moreton Bay says dogs are not allowed in conservation parks, reserves or on foreshores unless an area is designated for them, so keep to signed areas and read the signs at each entry point.
Is there a fenced dog park?
Kroll Gardens Dog Park at 257 Duffield Road, Clontarf, is one of three off-leash dog parks on the peninsula. It has a fenced section for smaller dogs and an agility course with tyres, pipes and ramps.
Tips for a day out with your dog
- Carry bags and a lead at all times, even on the off-leash beach.
- Bring water: shade is patchy along the foreshore.
- Walk early or late in summer, when the sand and paths are cooler.
Cafe dog policies vary, so ask staff before you sit down with your dog.
