Moreton Bay is right on the doorstep, and the Redcliffe Peninsula has two well-known fishing jetties, a boat ramp at Scarborough and a fish market for the days nothing bites.
Where can you fish from land?
- Redcliffe Jetty: the current jetty opened in 1999, on the site of jetties dating back to 1885. It has lighting and seating, and whiting are a common catch.
- Woody Point Jetty: first built in 1888, it is a popular spot to cast a line all year, with sunset views over Bramble Bay.
- Hornibrook Bridge platform, Clontarf: most of the old bridge was demolished around 2010, but a rebuilt section at the Clontarf end is used for fishing.
Where can you launch a boat?
Scarborough Boat Harbour is a state boat harbour managed by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, about 1 km from our villa. The public boat ramp is on Bird O’Passage Parade. Inside the harbour, Scarborough Marina has a 35-tonne travel lift and dry stack storage for power boats up to 9 m.
What can you catch?
Bream, whiting, flathead and flounder are common catches around the peninsula, with snapper in the bay. What bites depends on season, tide and spot.
What are the rules?
You do not need a licence for recreational fishing in Queensland tidal waters. Size and possession limits and closed seasons do apply, and parts of the bay near the peninsula are marine national park (green) zones where all fishing is banned, including Deception Bay, Hays Inlet, Scotts Point and Bramble Bay. Check the Moreton Bay zoning maps or the Qld Fishing app before you fish.
